Advantages and Disadvantages of Aluminum Roofing

Weather Resistance and Longevity: Renowned for its durability, aluminum roofing from a leading aluminum roofing company in Texas boasts a lifespan that often spans decades. Resilient against harsh weather conditions, aluminum roofs withstand high humidity, wind, rain, hail, acid rain, snow, and more, making them an ideal choice for Central Texas homes.

Environmental Considerations: Aluminum roofing is eco-friendly, often crafted from recycled materials, with some containing up to ninety percent recycled metal. Its lightweight design reduces installation labor and time, making aluminum roof installation quicker and more efficient. This also minimizes transportation fuel consumption, aligning with sustainable practices.

Managing the Temperature: A key advantage of aluminum roofing is its reflective properties, which make it highly effective at temperature regulation. By reflecting nearly all of the sun’s rays, it keeps homes cool in intense heat. It also retains heat in the winter, ensuring warmth during colder months. Traditionally, roofs are areas where heat and cold air escape, but an aluminum roof acts as a barrier, maintaining consistent temperatures year-round. This efficient regulation reduces HVAC costs, offering homeowners significant energy savings, especially in Central Texas.

Metal Roofing Includes

Standing Seam

Offers snap-lock, mechanical locks, and batten panels. Each type has unique interlocking mechanisms, providing various levels of protection. Choose the most suitable seam type based on your building's climate.

Corrugated

Prefabricated corrugated metal is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and durable. This type of metal roofing is an excellent solution for buildings as it effectively directs water away from your roof.

Copper

Greater flexibility compared to other metals, enduring severe weather conditions. They come in three forms: panels, shingles, and continuous. Copper can be designed in various ways.

Steel

Steel roofing is characterized by its lightweight, energy efficiency, recyclability, and durability. It is easy to install, which makes it an affordable option. With a few customizations, a steel roof can mimic the appearance of other roofing types.

Metal Shingles

Metal shingles can be designed to mimic materials like cedar, slate, ceramic, or wood. They are a great investment if you appreciate the look of traditional shingles but want something lighter, more versatile, and fire-resistant.

Mammoth replaced our roof In October 2020. We had seen their work on a neighbor's house so we checked them out. Their online and BBB reviews were positive. From start to finish, they were very professional and responsive. Eddie Crowe assisted us in getting our insurance claim approved, including some supplemental items the original adjuster had not included.. He answered all our questions and then found a source for the Energy-star shingles we requested. The crew was amazing. They arrived early, wrapped our shrubs, and worked efficiently, which allowed for a one-day installation. They not only did a great job installing the new roof, but also in removing all the debris from our yard as well as our neighbors' yards. Finally, they quickly provided the supporting documentation for the insurance company which allowed us to receive the final claim payment within 3 days. We highly recommend Mammoth and Eddie. UPDATE April 2024: After a storm with high winds and heavy rain. we had a small leak around a vent flashing. Eddie and Tim responded the next day and quickly fixed the leak. Tim was very thorough in fixing the problem and did not rush the job. He also checked for anything that might become a problem later and resealed those areas. And Mammoth honored their lifetime warranty! Highly recommend Mammoth for any roofing jobs.

This company took the time of day to come out and help/work with me on my inconvenient schedule. They did a repair on a minor leak from a poor install from another roofing company and they identified/located the issue very swiftly and professionally.

Met with Scott to inspect my home after the big hail storm from last night which had about golf ball size hail. They inspected the roof and provided me pictures showing warning spots that may potentially lead to leaks in the future such as rusted nails that may expand but no immediate work was needed. Greatly appreciated the honesty provided by Scott and did not feel pressured at all to make any repairs. I will definitely work with mammoth in the future when repairs are needed and recommend to anyone needing roof repairs.

Timothy has been with Mammoth Roofing from its beginning, which is evidence of the excellent work environment provided by the company. Timothy is both professional and friendly and has a wonderful sense of humor. He did a fantastic job of repairing some rodent damage that led to leaking through the front wall during heavy rains. He sealed up all the cracks and spaces and covered them with metal to prevent any further damage. A very professional job. On a more personal note, Tim has led an interesting life. It turns out that he and my wife were both raised in Cleveland, Ohio, so they reminisced about places, people and food. And he did not charge me for the extra time. In fact, I think he undercharged me for the work. James R. Clark, MS, MPH

FAQs

What You Need to Know About Aluminum Roofing

Aluminum roofing is a popular choice for homeowners due to its durability and energy efficiency. Below, we answer common questions to help you understand the benefits and features of aluminum roofing, so you can make the best decision for your home.

How durable are aluminum roofs compared to other roofing materials?

Aluminum roofs are highly durable, often lasting 40-70 years or more. Unlike other roofing materials, aluminum is resistant to rust, corrosion, and harsh weather, making it an excellent choice for long-term protection.

Are aluminum roofs suitable for homes in Texas?

Do aluminum roofs help reduce energy costs?

Absolutely. Aluminum roofs reflect up to 95% of the sun’s rays, helping to keep homes cooler and reducing the need for air conditioning. This energy efficiency can lead to significant savings on utility bills, especially in hot climates.

How much maintenance does an aluminum roof require?

Aluminum roofs require minimal maintenance. They resist rust and weather damage, so a periodic inspection and cleaning are typically all that’s needed to keep your aluminum roof in great condition.

Is aluminum roofing environmentally friendly?

About The Author

Founder. Builder. No Plan B.

For ten years, Scott worked jobs that looked stable on the surface—finance, insurance, corporate roles—but always felt like they belonged to someone else’s vision. He wasn’t building anything of his own, and the day-to-day offered little more than repetition.

After a personal and financial low point—including a Chapter 7 bankruptcy—he found himself starting over with almost nothing. A friend gave him a shot in roofing sales. Two small jobs in, someone wrote his commission on a napkin at a diner table. The number was more than he’d made in weeks. That’s when he saw what this industry could offer—not just income, but real ownership over your success.

From there, everything changed.

Scott built this company to give others the same shot he got. He doesn’t look for perfect résumés—he looks for people with drive, character, and something to prove. His goal is simple: train in weeks what took him a decade to learn, and create a path to success that’s real, not theoretical.

Today, he leads one of the fastest-growing roofing and solar teams in Texas—but he’s still walking jobs, coaching reps, and checking in with homeowners. Because no matter how big the company gets, the mission stays the same: do the job right, take care of your people, and never forget where you started.
