Storm tarping: the ridge covered the same dayThe next 30 minutes, before we arrive.
None of this fixes the roof. All of it keeps the damage small until a roofer does.
Catch the water
A bucket under the drip, towels around it, and anything valuable out of the room. A bulging ceiling is holding water — keep clear of it.
Kill the power if water is near it
Water near a light fitting or an outlet: switch that circuit off at the panel and leave it off until we've looked.
Photograph it
The ceiling, the wall, the water. Time-stamped photos are what an insurance claim runs on later.
Stay off the roof
Wet shingles and dark are how people get hurt. Nothing you can do up there tonight is worth it.
What we do the day you call.
Then the permanent repair, quoted in writing from the written Roof Grade.
Tarp and dry-in
A proper tarp, battened down, or a temporary dry-in over the damaged area. Not a blue sheet and a prayer.
Trace the leak from the attic
Most "roof" leaks are a boot, a nail pop, a flashing or a vent — found from inside, not from the street.
Temporary flashing and boots
Where a permanent part is a day away, we make it watertight now and come back with the right part.
Documentation for the claim
If a storm caused it, we photograph and date everything so the emergency work and the permanent fix both count.
Document the damage before deciding.
The inspection records the condition of your roof in photos and writing. Your insurer determines the coverage under your policy.
- Dated storm? If hail or wind caused it, the emergency work is usually part of the claim. We document it that way from the first visit.
- Old roof? A 22-year-old roof that finally let go is a replacement conversation, not a claim. We'll say so.
- Either way the tarp goes up first. The paperwork can wait until the water stops.

Straight answers while the bucket fills.
Ask your local teamHow much is a tarp?
Emergency tarping is quoted before we start, and it comes off the price of the permanent repair if you go ahead with it.
Will you repair a roof you didn't install?
Yes. Most of our repairs are on roofs someone else put on.
Is the inspection really free?
Yes — it's the same Roof Grade visit for every service. Attic first, 75–150 photos, the 32-point Hunter-Gatherer Report, a letter grade and a plain-English verdict. You get the written report whether you hire us or not.
Will you tell me if I don't need the work?
Yes. An A grade is a handshake and a date to look again. A B means a few small repairs, priced in the open, on a roof with years left in it. We'd rather be the roofer you call in ten years than the one who sold you a roof you didn't need.
What warranty comes with the work?
Repairs carry a workmanship warranty in writing on the invoice. Full replacements carry the Mammoth Two Tusk Limited Lifetime Warranty: our 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation, plus the manufacturer's limited lifetime material warranty on the roofing materials. Ask us for the warranty document and read it before you sign.
