Before we recommend metal, we check four things.

  • Pitch and layout. Standing seam loves simple, low-slope roofs. Cut-up roofs with many hips and valleys push the price up fast; stone-coated steel handles them better.
  • The HOA. Many HOAs allow stone-coated steel and refuse bare standing seam. We check the covenants before we quote.
  • How long you'll stay. Metal pays back over decades. Selling in five years? A Class 4 shingle may be the smarter money.
  • The deck under it. Metal over a rotten deck is a rotten roof with a nice hat. We inspect and price decking per sheet.

Metal roofing questions in Austin.

Ask your local team
Which Mammoth team installs metal roofs in Austin?

A local Mammoth team in the Austin area, with local inspectors and crews across Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Lakeway and San Marcos. Same company, same written process and the same free Roof Grade as every Mammoth market.

How much does a metal roof cost?

Mammoth's cost guide puts standing seam and stone-coated steel at $11–$15 per square foot installed ($1,100–$1,500 a square). On a typical 2,000 sq ft single-story home with 22–26 squares of roof, that is about $24,000–$38,000. Decking repairs, a steep pitch or a cut-up roof move it up; the written quote is the number.

Standing seam or stone-coated steel?

Standing seam suits simple, low-slope roofs and the modern or ranch look. Stone-coated steel handles cut-up roofs with many hips and valleys better and reads as shake or shingle, which many HOAs prefer. The free Roof Grade answers it for your house, in writing.

Is a metal roof loud in the rain?

Not over a solid deck with underlayment, which is how we install every one. The tin-roof sound comes from panels screwed over open purlins on barns.

Will a metal roof lower my insurance?

Class 4 impact-rated roofs, including stone-coated steel, qualify for a discount with many Texas insurers. The amount varies by carrier; we give you the certificate.

What warranty comes with a metal roof?

Full replacements carry the Mammoth Two Tusk Limited Lifetime Warranty: our 10-year workmanship warranty on the installation, plus the manufacturer's lifetime material warranty on the materials, which means the life of that product on the manufacturer's written terms. Ask us for the warranty document and read it before you sign.

Can you install metal over my existing shingles?

Sometimes, and we'll say when it's a bad idea. Most homes get a full tear-off so the deck is inspected; the price difference is smaller than people expect.
