# Stone-coated steel roofing: the strength of metal, the look the HOA wanted.

Mammoth Roofing & Exteriors · https://mammothroofs.com/services/stone-coated-steel/ · (210) 934-9074

Steel panels with an aluminum-zinc coating and a stone granule finish, installed by our own crews as one system from the deck up. From the street it reads as shake or shingle, and it carries a Class 4 impact rating. It is built to be the last roof the house needs.

## The panel is a third of it. The other two-thirds is how we put it on.

Stone-coated steel done badly is a noisy, leaky, expensive mistake. Done as a system, it is quiet, dry and built to last.

- **Deck & underlayment**: Full deck inspection and repair, Igloo Shield™ ice and water barrier at the eaves, the valleys and every spot water collects, and Pelt Felt™ synthetic underlayment over the whole deck. Same as every Mammoth roof.

- **Battens & panels**: Shake profiles sit on a batten grid that leaves an air space under the panels; shingle-look profiles go straight to the deck. Self-tapping fasteners hold every panel, and locking rake edges run the full length of each rake.

- **Flashing & finish**: Flashing bent on site to fit each chimney and wall, granule-coated 3-in-1 pipe flashing that blends into the roof, and ventilation worked out for your attic. Then a SweepCheck™ cleanup before we leave.

## Two looks, one roof.

- **Shake profile**: The Hill Country favorite. The look of cedar, none of the fire or rot, on battens with an air space beneath.

- **Shingle-look profile**: The look of a traditional shingle roof, in steel, installed straight to the deck.

- **[Why we call it the Forever Roof™.](https://mammothroofs.com/forever-roof/)** (The Forever Roof™): The nine layers, what Class 4 means, the two layers of warranty and the questions owners ask are on the Forever Roof page.

## The homeowners stone-coated steel makes sense for.

- Buying your last roof. If you plan to be in the house a long time, one roof beats three.

- Tired of hail season. Class 4 is the highest rating in the UL 2218 impact test.

- An HOA that says no to metal. From the street it reads as shake or shingle. We check your HOA's rules before you choose.

## Straight answers before you book.

### Is stone-coated steel noisy?

Not the way bare metal can be. The stone granule finish, the underlayment and the deck beneath it quiet the rain.

### Does hail damage it?

It carries a Class 4 rating, the highest in the UL 2218 impact test, which means hail shouldn't break through to the back of the material. Surface marks are possible in severe storms. No roof is impervious to hail.

### Is it heavier than my shingle roof?

No. It is lighter than a typical asphalt shingle roof, and far lighter than tile. We check the structure at the inspection either way.

### Is the inspection really free?

Yes. It's the same Roof Grade visit for every service: attic first, 75–150 photos, the 32-point Hunter-Gatherer Report, a letter grade and a plain-English verdict. You get the written report whether you hire us or not.

### Will you tell me if I don't need the work?

Yes. An A grade is a handshake and a date to look again. A B means a few small repairs, priced in the open, on a roof with years left in it. We'd rather be the roofer you call in ten years than the one who sold you a roof you didn't need.

### What warranty comes with the work?

Two layers. The stone-coated steel panels carry the manufacturer's limited lifetime material warranty, which covers winds up to 120 mph and Class 4 hail on the manufacturer's written terms. Our installation carries Mammoth's 10-year workmanship warranty. Ask for both documents and read them before you sign.
