Your municipality and neighborhood can have different requirements. We confirm the permit and material-approval requirements for your address before work begins. ### Can a roofer waive my deductible in Texas? No. Texas law prohibits a contractor from offering to waive, rebate or absorb a property-insurance deductible. Your insurer determines the coverage under your policy. ([Texas Department of Insurance](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/consumer/storms/roofing-and-insurance-know-the-law.html)) ### How long does an insurance claim take? Timing depends on your policy, the information the insurer needs and any applicable catastrophe extension. Ask your insurer about your claim deadline and use the Texas Department of Insurance’s guide to understand the process. ([Texas claims process guide](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/tips/getting-your-insurance-claim-paid.html)) ### How often does hail hit McKinney? The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2019–2023) puts the median build year of homes in McKinney at 2006, across 74,436 housing units, 63% of them owner-occupied. Mammoth's own guide treats 18 to 20 years as the point to plan a replacement for an asphalt shingle roof, so a home from that era is worth a written inspection. ### Do I need a permit to replace my roof in McKinney? In the City of McKinney, the published rule is this: Permits are required for all roofing projects (a flat permit fee, $200 when checked), the permit must be posted and visible from the street, drip edge is required on asphalt shingle roofs, and existing layers must come off where the roof is water-soaked, deteriorated, or already carries two or more coverings. (McKinney's own page, checked September 18, 2026.) Mammoth's local team confirms the current requirement for your address before work starts and files the permit when one is needed.
